Indirect Signs of Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injuries at MR Imaging

Abstract
Since the advent of the MR imaging of Knee injuries, many studies have focuses on the correlation of MRI findings with lesions seen at arthroscopy. Bone bruises, PCL angulation and anterior subluxation of the tibia have been identified at MR
imaging in
association with AC tears. We tried the MR imaging of the knees of 78 patients with arthroscopically diagnosized anterior cruciate ligament injuries and evaluated the value of 3 indurect signs for diagnosing ACL tears.
@ES The Results were as followings:
@EN 1. Bone bruises were identified at MR imaging in 19 of 31 patients 961%) with ACL tears, versus 12 of 38 patients (30%) with normal ACL at arthroscopy. The most common site bone bruise was in the posterolateral tibial plateau or midportion of
the
lateral femoral condyle.
2. PCL angulation under 105 degree was seen in 15 of 28 patients (54%) with tears but in only 3 of 35 patients (9%) without tears.
3. Anterior subluxation of the tibia was fou8nd 21 of 36 patients 958 %) with tears and 3 of patients (7%) without tears.
So indirect signs may assist MR imaging detection of ACL tears.
